Beatniks Rocks Again

11/22/2006

The courthouse is once again thriving on weekend evenings thanks to the reopening of Beatniks at its new location at the former Brunt’s Menswear store. The music club opened its doors for the first time Halloween Saturday with regional favorite Reverend Peyton and His Big Damn Band. More than 90 costumed fans danced to the distinct Delta Blues sound of the band.

Beatniks owner Trace Poulson has spent the better part of this summer and fall converting the venerable clothing store into a unique music venue. While the new club is smaller than the old space, it has a more cohesive interior design. Poulson took elements from the old club and expanded upon them, such as the blue sky and clouds ceiling mural. It’s still every bit as eclectic as the old venue.

The acoustics and sound system are much improved in the new space, producing a warmer more focused overall sonic experience. A carry over from the old club is arguably the best international beer selection in town. Beatniks is now a 21-and-over music club, open Thursday through Saturday nights 6 P.M. to 3 A.M. with extended hours coming soon. Thursday nights will again feature an open mic with no cover charge. The best of local and regional bands will be featured on Friday and Saturday nights.
